Protected Species
Protected Species Surveys
Why do you need one?
Species including the otter (Lutra lutra) , bats (Chiroptera), white clawed crayfish (Austropotamobius pallipes), water vole (Arvicola terrestris), badger (Meles meles), reptiles and great crested newt (Triturus cristatus) are protected under acts and laws such as the 1981 Wildlife and Countryside Act. These specialist surveys enable you to identify at an early stage whether or not species protected by law are present within your site
.If you are carrying out development works this enables you to identify possible delays to your project early on, helping you to work within the law.
How do we do it?
Our ecologists are experienced at surveying for evidence of and potential for, protected species. We advise on mitigation for planning applications where protected species might be found.
We are able to carry out surveys for:
- Bats
- Birds
- Water voles
- White clawed crayfish
- Otters
- Badgers
- Great crested newts
- Reptiles
Who have we carried them out for?
Our bat surveys and nesting bird reports gave Kier project managers peace of mind when working on the St Catherines School project and at Handsworth Pavillion; by reassuring them that no bats were present in their building. They could continue their work in the safe knowledge they were working within the law.
