Outdoor learning takes centre stage at Dore School!

Recent research by Forest Schools has shown that learning outdoors can facilitate many aspects of child development, including self-esteem, concentration, sociability and physical co-ordination. As such, many schools have improved their provision of outdoor facilities but none more so than Dore Junior School who have decided to put the issue centre stage.
“We had been discussing for sometime how we could make better use of our beautiful school grounds and the unique location of the school” said headteacher Sue Hopkinson. “With the support of the Sheffield Wildlife Trust, The Big Lottery Fund and Wildscapes we have created a great area for pupils to play, perform and learn”
The final design for the school grounds development consists of an amphitheatre with decked seating which doubles up as a Greek style outdoor theatre. The stage was built by the Wildscapes Land Management team who have recently helped create many wildlife-friendly landscaped grounds for schools and communities across South Yorkshire.
Pupils gave a musical rendition of Rebecca’s World to mark the opening of the stage and it was a great success!
